About The Artist

Jean Mulvanity Davis is a visual artist and calligrapher who works out of her own studio in Nashua, New Hampshire.  Her interest in art began when she was a teenager and she went on to study art in college.  After graduating she specialized in teaching art in the public school system in her hometown, a career which she enjoyed for the next 33 years.  Upon retirement she opened her own studio, continuing to teach children as well as adults, but concentrating on getting back to drawing, painting and calligraphy full time.

As a painter Davis works mainly in oil and watercolor.  In her realistic style, whether it is a still life, portrait or land/seascape, she endeavors to convey to the viewers the marvels and beauty she has witnessed in her travels at home and abroad.  Working generally from her own sketches and photographs she aspires to relate the pleasures and emotions her subjects evoked in her and possibly recall for the onlookers their own memories of people, places and things.

Calligraphy, Jean’s other artistic passion, brought her the Best of NH Magazine’s readers’ poll award for “Best Calligrapher 2009”.  Her hand-lettered services include designing invitations, business cards, logos, ketubahs, proclamations, bookplates, greeting cards, addressing envelopes and more.

 Davis also does commissioned work.
